Do you know when you need help?

Most times we refuse help when we need it the most. We have jaded perceptions of what is right and wrong in our small world. College is where you develop habits that stick with you the rest of your life. You become who you are in college. Your views change, your friends change, and just about everything changes. Always be open for advice even when you don't think you need it.
Don't be so quick to judge, evaluate the issue at hand. Casually bring it up and try and solve it. Remember, friends stick by friends! Don't give up if you fail, continue to be there for them even if they are upset with you. Everyone needs a friend!

Greek Life Process

Last week was Rush Week. Upperclassman could rush to receive a bid from a Fraternity. I can rush in the spring. Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity is open for anyone to rush. Needless to say, I rushed hoping to get a bid from the group. Fifty people rushed for twenty spots. I am one of thirty people who did not receive a bid.
Yes a part of me is a little upset, i wasn't asked to be a part of the group. How does one gain clarity of this? Surely you don't just ask one of the brothers. Greek life is something I don't really understand just yet. What does it really mean to be in a brotherhood?

The Solo Cup

When you see a picture of your friends like the one to the left, do you assume that they are having innocent fun? Or do you think that there is something special in the red solo cup? Most employers of today look at facebook pages. When they see the cup what do they think? Yes there is no proof that alcohol is in the cup, but Solo is known as the infamous party cup. Next time you say cheese, ditch the cup!

Getting Involved

I told myself when I came to High Point I would only take on what I can handle! High school was a lesson, i found myself becoming stressed out with to much on my plate. I have taken on a few responsibilities but I feel confident that I can handle them. I have less chill time. I don't get to hang out with my friends as much and I find myself working late into the night. Never the less I love what I am doing and Im still looking for a few more things to add to my plate! It is important to balance fun and work. When you have to much free time you make mistakes. A full blown schedule stresses you out and you loose time to recenter and focus. Are you over worked?

Just talked to a pretty busy girl here on campus. She is very talented, smart and extremely involved. She finds time to play and work. When you can balance work, laundry, and working out, you have it together!

H1N1 Scare is ridiculous

All of my friends are going crazy! My university handed out masks and hand sanitizer! I coughed today in class and people looked at me like I was a leper. H1N1 is taking over not as the flu, but as a ridiculous scare. Check out this ARTICLE on the Swine Flu and how parents are freaking out!

I did run into a friend today that did look quite sick. She described to me her symptoms, which did sound like the flu. I told her to but on her Swine Mask and go to bed. High Point's policy is that if you contract the virus you are quarantined in your room. They bring you your food and homework until you get better. Your roommate may also be quarantined depending on how fast they catch it.

The University did place hand sanitizer all over the place. There is a dispenser at ever entrance of every building and around food and bathrooms. The only issue is that the sanitizer smells like stale beer.

Back at HPU: Fall In Full Swing

Efforts to a daily blog are beginning to take shape. I have found the purpose of this blog. My goal is to record my time while here at High Point University. Discussing classes, friends, and issues of a college student will be posted, hopefully on a daily basis. By reading my blog, you will find yourself becoming part of my daily life, I will also become part of yours. This should be a great agreement.

Last night I began my radio show hear on campus. It is an online show so anyone can listen to it. You can find me, (DJ Midnight) on the radio on Monday late night from 12am-2am. I play light music to help you forget about your chaotic day and relax into your peaceful night. The show is really fun to do. I had a few friends listening last night and I really appreciate all the feedback I got. You can find the link to the show at www.hpuradio.com

My first full weekend back at school was overall pretty fun. High Point always does a great job of having activities for all the students to do. Derby Day was the big event this weekend. Huge inflatables, rock walls, and pool fun were some of the items on the agenda. Frat houses opened up this weekend as well. I saw my fair share of students finding the other side of college.

Finally, I am beginning to get everything together for campaign week. I am running for Freshman President. I will talk more about that later. Class starts soon which is pretty cool. This class is the Presidents Seminar. I hear Dr. Nido Qubein, my president speak on a weekly basis. He speaks on how to be succesful. He shares his tips on life, money, and relationships. Needless to say I should go or I'll be late!

Finals Week

Im almost done with my first taste of college. Today I have a PEC exam which should be a breeze. Tomorrow I have an HRE Exam. Im planning to leave on Friday around 10am. I should get back home around 5:30pm or so depending on how many stops I have to make.
I can't believe how many friends I have made over this short period of a month. Im not really sure how to treat this situation. I have been missing out on what my friends have been doing and they have no idea about my experiences here at High Point. I am hoping for a catch-up night when I get back.
I don't if I should be happy to get back home, or be sad that I am leaving this awesome place. It reminds of Summer Camp from when I was younger. The only difference is that this Summer Camp is about to become my permanent home (at least for the next four years).

Start of Something New

For the past three weeks I have been in High Point, North Carolina. I'm doing a study program at High Point University for the summer. I have met many new people which has been an experience of its own. Everyone wants to be friends, we all come here not knowing anyone. My first few days here, I tried to meet everyone. I needed to find out where I fit in here. I have an awesome roommate, we might even room together in the fall. Some many amazing things have happened and are continuing to happen. I will update you throughout the rest of this week and then in fall when I start back for my normal semester.
